 Dr. Lola Chuma is a specialist paediatric surgeon who is passionate about surgical care for infants, children and adolescents. Trained in the latest minimally invasive techniques, Dr. Chuma combines meticulous technical expertise with a deep commitment to compassion, safety, and clear communication with families. She is known for her reassuring approach, placing each child and their family’s needs at the centre of care.

About Us

Dr Gcinile Lola Chuma nee Zwane, also known as Dr Lola, was born in eSwatini, Manzini. As a last born, hence her name Gcinile, she was always inspired by her diligent older siblings and her parents raised her with principles of faith, humility and compassion.

Her medical career began in Mpumalanga after graduating from the University of Pretoria, where she did her internship and community service. Her love for surgery was sparked after working in Themba hospital under the leadership and guidance of Dr A Twala. She then decided to specialise in surgery, and it was during her rotation in Paediatric Surgery that she realised her true passion. She honed her surgical expertise during her training at Steve Biko Academic Hospital and Kalafong Academic Hospital.

Her current roles not only include her dedication to Dr Lola Inc and improving patient outcomes but teaching upcoming surgeons at the University of Pretoria and Steve Biko Academic Hospital. She believes in individualized patient care as well consistent, transparent communication.

Dr Lola is a Golden Key International Honor Society member and has been recognised in 2023&2024 African Health Excellence Awards for her contribution as a mentor in her field.

Dr Lola is the founder of Lethabo La Bana Foundation, NPO 2025/192720/08. “It’s all about the children.” The foundation strives to improve paediatric surgery healthcare by bridging the gap in the public health sector. It aims to optimize the training and teaching of paediatric surgery trainees. Lethabo La Bana Foundation’s dream is to grow, flourish and see the smiles of all the children we help.

Outside of her clinical work she enjoys running, travelling and spending time with family. Fun fact her great grandmother was Lalola hence her name Lola, which means to hone or sharpen in siSwati.
